This poem was inspired by hearing the story of Odysseus and wondering about  the story from Penelope's point of view.

With a babe in her arms, Penelope's left
As Odysseus sails out to sea
What will become of her and her child?
Is this love that never can be?

Faithful and pure, but lost and alone
Abandoned for women and war
While Odysseus travels to far away lands
What is she waiting here for?

Penelope weaves while Penelope waits

With rumours of death, the suitors advance
Penelope tells them all no
She knows that Odysseus will come back to her
She has to believe it is so

When he finally returns, Penelope's glad
She has a husband again
Her son has a father, the kingdom a king
But her heart is too broken to mend

Odysseus waits while Penelope weaves
